US History NEW
Cary received his BS in Social Sciences with a concentration in History and his MA in Instruction and Curriculum Design from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo. He has been teaching at the secondary level since 1970 and has been a member of the Social Studies faculty at Morro Bay High School since 1976. Though Cary has taught a full range of Social Studies classes in his career, US History has been a lifetime love. He initiated the APUS curriculum at Morro Bay High School in 1983 and views the program as a continuously developing project. Cary has been an AP* exam reader since 1993 and now reads the USAP alternate exam. He also serves as a Consultant for the College Board presenting one day workshops.
In addition to his work with Advanced Placement, Cary worked as a reader for the California Golden State exam in US History and for the Praxis Social Studies series. Cary’s teaching and exam reading experience, along with his extensive travel throughout the United States, provide a strong foundation which enables him to bring both breadth and depth to the week-long summer institute in US History. Chosen by the students/faculty to be Morro Bay High ‘Teacher of the Year’ for 2001-2002 and again in 2002-2003, and was selected the Teacher of the Year for the San Luis Coastal School District for 2002-2003.
