Spanish Language


Monday, June 23rd ,  Review of AP* Spanish Language Exam and Course.  Introduction to AP* Strategies.  Available materials.
Discussion of current methodologies.  Introduction, identifying and selecting students.  Pre-AP* preparation.  Building support for your AP* program.  AP* goals, standards and philosophies; articulation in your Spanish department.  College Board materials; resources, texts and materials.  Developing listening skills.  Participants are assigned a sample lesson plan.
 
Tuesday, June 24th , Integration of listening and speaking skills. Using the Internet as a tool for teaching AP* Spanish.
Presentation of sample lesson plans.  Grading holistically; simulated tape grading from student samples; ways to practice speaking in the classroom.  How to teach idioms and advanced vocabulary.  Internet activities; visits to several web sites.  Participants are assigned a lesson plan that integrates the skill areas of speaking and listening to share with the class tomorrow.  Lesson Plan, Activity or Book reviews.

 

Wednesday, June 25th, Integration of reading across all levels.  Using authentic literature in the AP* Spanish Language Course.  Projects for Pre-AP* and AP* Courses. 
Presentation/sharing of lesson plan/book review.  Developing good reading skills.  Using authentic materials to improve reading.  Strategies for students.  Ways to use literature in the classroom at elementary and intermediate levels.  Preview of several very good videos that can be incorporated in the Language classroom. 

 

Thursday, June 26th, Integration of Writing; strategies for success.  Using writing as a tool for all levels.  Examples of Informal and Formal tasks from 2008 exam. 
Strategies for teaching writing that culminate in AP*.  Objectives on the AP* exam; how to evaluate student writing.  Produce topics to take back with you to class.  Break out groups; to work on “vertical teaming”; scope and sequence across all levels.  Participants are assigned a lesson plan that integrates all skill areas.

 

Friday, June 27th , Wrap-up and Final Words of Wisdom. 
Presentation of final projects/lessons.  Evaluation.  Any unanswered questions?  Final words of wisdom.
