Studio Art

This AP* Studio Art Institute will provide teachers with an overview of both preparation possibilities and presentation requirements for the three different AP* Studio Art Portfolio Exams. Student success through the demonstration of high-quality visual problem-solving will be our key concern throughout.

The following topics will be thoroughly covered: defining the parameters and examining the specifications for each portfolio section, striving for highest possible Quality results both in planning for instruction and mentoring individual students, and using the rubrics and knowledge of the Reading process to maximize student results for each section of each portfolio. Teaching strategies, sharing best practices, and examining suitable references will be highlighted throughout the week.

Each day, time will be devoted to increasing possibilities for the development of Breadth and Concentration by reviewing student work in slide format, examining the contents of actual portfolios, sharing best practices and resources, and in studio samplers that address specific instructional needs.

Participants are invited to bring a camera, a sketchbook, and resources that demonstrate “best practice” for an aspect of AP* or Pre AP* to share when we visit the computer lab.  It is anticipated that some time will be allocated for a visit to The San Diego Art Museum at Balboa Park.

Introductory Letter

Dear Participants,

This Institute provides a special time to network information with AP* Studio Art colleagues. Because getting the best will be our goal for the week, participants are invited to bring resources that have proven to be of value to share with the group.  Because sharing will be done during our computer lab time, list favorite web sites, post lesson plans/visuals, and book titles in a retrievable format.

I will provide many slides, an ample handout, a range of actual portfolios, and art supplies. Also, if you have exam portfolios, AP* or Pre-AP* student work that you would like to discuss, please bring these along. The week is for you to get as much as you can. A flexible time table has been outlined which we can alter to suit the immediate needs of the group.
