






Valerie Stevenson
English Language
Valerie Stevenson received her BA in English from the University of California , Los Angeles and her MA in Education from Point Loma Nazarene University . She has taught English for more than twenty years. Valerie teaches AP* English Literature and AP* English Language at Patrick Henry High School . She has been a mentor teacher for the San Diego Unified School District and is a veteran workshop presenter and College Board consultant. She is an experienced reader for both the Golden State and AP* English exams. Valerie was selected in 1997 and 2000 for National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) summer seminars. In 2000, she studied the poetry of Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson at Columbia University . She brings her expertise and enthusiasm from that seminar to her AP* workshops. In November 2001 she was named as a National Board Certified Teacher in Adolescent/ Young Adult English Language Arts. Most recently, her colleagues voted her Patrick Henry High School 's 2002-03 Teacher of the Year.
